Photography has always been a passion of mine ever since I can remember. My family had this little point and shoot camera and I just
clicked away to my heart’s content, much to my mom’s alarm. You can just imagine my mother’s exasperation when I constantly bug her to
buy more rolls of film or ask her to have a couple of rolls developed ;) By the time I was in high school, it became more than a hobby
when I got my very own SLR film camera. I was addicted. I saw a different world then through my lenses.
Digital SLR cameras then came around and my first experience with one was when I was already working at Bigfoot Global Solutions, Inc.
in Cebu, Philippines. The company issued one to our department and I was assigned to it. It was a Canon 300D. Simply amazing. My shots
were no longer limited since I don’t have the cost of films and development hovering over my head anymore. The lenses were state of the
art and the camera came with several huge memory cards. Talk about photography heaven.
Saving up for my very own digital SLR took awhile but I was able to practice and hone my photography skills through the shoots at work
which include regular product shoots, events coverage and shoots with Fashion TV models. I worked with renowned local photographers on
some of those shoots and I absorbed everything they taught me like a sponge.
When I had enough money tucked away, I got my first digital SLR – my ever loyal Canon 350D. We’ve seen a lot and have captured a lot of
beautiful moments together – solemn weddings, crazy parties and spectacular events. I would never trade it for anything else.
Weekends were filled with freelance shoots. Photography has already become my way of life.
A lot has changed over the years. I have migrated to Singapore and I’m currently working as an Art Director for a web company. One
thing hasn’t changed though. I still do photo shoots over the weekends for freelance and sometimes for experience. I have now added a
Canon 5D to my collection and I’m eyeing more lenses to experiment on. This province boy from Ozamis, Philippines has definitely gone a
long way and still has more challenges to come. Camera equipment today, my very own studio tomorrow. Watch out world, I’ve got my lens
on you. |
